Guideline for Presenting a Request to a Co-Parent

(Explain the situation with out using the word you)
I felt/I feel* ….
(Use one or two feeling words - see examples below for suggestions)
Because I ….
(Provide a reason or personal belief about the situation)
Therefore I would ask/request ….
(Be specific and clear in what you want)
And I, in turn, would be willing to ….
(You have to give to get)
It that acceptable to you, or do you have another suggestion?
(Perhaps your co-parent cannot say yes at this time, but may have another option that could work)
*Some basic “feeling” words: frustrated, upset, concerned, alarmed, scared, confused, surprised, shocked, sad, worried, stressed, pressured, overwhelmed, resentful, discouraged, excited, pleased, relieved, encouraged, hopeful, thankful, grateful, proud, and happy.
